In the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints we give our babies a special blessing to give them a name and enter them into the records of the church. Most of the time these blessings are given within the first few months after birth. We discussed several times when would be best to give Jack his special blessing but because of Covid hitting another wave we were never able to settle on a time. In January we asked if my dad would be able to come out and help us fix our car and we were finally able to settle on the weekend of February 14th. We decided to go ahead and do the blessing while him and my mom were here.
Outside of Covid times we would have invited other family members and other priesthood holders to join in the circle to give Jack his blessing. We also would have done the blessing during Sacrament Meeting at the church. We were glad that at least my dad was able to be here, especially since Jack was given his middle name-Eugene!
Michael gave Jack a wonderful blessing! And Jack was the cutest baby! He was wide awake the whole time and looking right at his dad with the biggest grin! He seemed to really enjoy the special time with his dad and grandpa!
Superbaby!
Just hanging out reading a book! Haha!
Johnathan Eugene with his grandpa, Dennis Eugene :)
I know I've shared the story of Jack's name before but since it was his special blessing day I'll share it here too-When I learned I was pregnant with a boy Logan told us he wanted to name his brother "Jack, but not the store Jack-not like Jack-in-the-Box" and then after that the kids called him Jack throughout the rest of the pregnancy. We decided to go with Johnathan as his official name, with Jack as his nickname. Johnathan is Hebrew for "gift of God" and Eugene is Greek and means "well born".
